  • Our inaugural Silly Pickles league in Portland, Oregon!
  • Location: The People's Courts (2700 NE 82nd Ave).
  • Start date: 7/10.
  • Time: 7-10pm. You will get one hour of court time per night.
  • Anticipated end date: 8/28. The league will be 8 weeks of play. There is a chance we have to skip one week because of private events The People's Courts hosts but there will be a total of 8 league nights.

Structure of League

The format of our league is a bit different. You sign up as an individual and give us a rating 0 - 100 (will collect after signing up). A score of 0 indicates you've never played pickleball before and aren't much of an athlete. A score of 100 means you're the best pickleball player in America. We then separate everyone into teams (Kucumber Kardashian, Britney Spears, Dill Gates, or Pickle Minaj). Similar to high school tennis, we pair the best players on a given team against the best players on another team (and the newbies vs other newbies). We also allow for couples and friend groups to all be on the same team. People have loved this especially when there are discrepancies in playing abilities. Your ranking on your team is also dynamic over the course of the season so, if you get better over time, we will move you up the ladder so you can continue to be challenged.

The other tweak we made relative to other leagues is a 30 minute break in between games. On a given night, you play 30 minutes of games (2 games to 11) then take a 30 minute break before playing your final 2 games with a different partner on your team. The 30 minute break plus changing partners has resulted in an awesome team camaraderie aspect that other leagues don't have. The People's Court has food and drinks there and it's a really cool facility so the 30 minute break should be a nice breather / chance to socialize a bit!

After signups close, we will collect everyone's skill rating and ask if you have any friends that you want on your team! For what it's worth, our waitlist in Chicago (where we started) is now 1,600 people! We would love for you to be a part of our first Silly Pickles league in Portland!
